He told News Conference Today:

“I’ve taken the decision to not continue next year as Real Madrid coach,” said Zidane.

"This is the right moment for everyone, it might seem a bit strange, but it had to be done for the good of everyone, the players, the club, and myself.

“This team must keep winning, and it needs a change after three years, another voice, another method of working."

"It might be a ‘until soon’ as Madrid have given everything to me. I will be here close to this club all my life."

"The decision maybe does not make sense to many people, but it does to me.

"This is the moment to make a change, also for the players, after three years it is the right decision.

"We always want more from the players, and a moment comes when I cannot ask them for more. They need another voice,to return to winning again.

"There are difficult moments when you can wonder whether you are the right person still. I do not forget the hard times, as well as the good times, and that makes you reflect. And this is the right moment.

"This is my decision, maybe I am mistaken, but after three years I see this as the moment. If I do not see clearly that we are going to continue winning, a moment comes when you say better to step aside."

"There are many reasons for this. I am not tired of coaching, after three years. But it is the moment to [leave] here."

"I do not want to start a season and havea bad time, I want to end with Real Madrid when everything is going well.

"I am doing this for the good of this team, for this club. It would have been difficult for me to win again next year. There have been good moments, but also difficult times. I do not forget that. And at this club you must know this.

"I did it as a player, and now again as a coach. This the right moment to end things well.

Is it because of Cristiano Ronaldo 'crisis'?

"No not at all.

The french man won his third consecutive Championship trophy in a row after defeating Liverpool in Kiev.

He took over a divided dressing room after the Sack of Rafa Benitez in 2016 and immediately set about uniting the squad.

He claimed his first trophy as manager two years ago when Madrid defeated Atletico on penalties in the Champions League final.

Zidane won nine major honors as Real Madrid coach in less than three years in charge.
