Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger has suggested that Nigerian forward, Alex Iwobi could lose his spot to rave of the moment, Eddie Nketiah, whose brace helped the Gunners see off Norwich City 2-1 in the Carabao Cup, reports owngoalnigeria.com.
Nketiah came off the bench to good effect for Arsenal as his brace helped them recover from a goal down to progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win achieved in extra time.
Speaking after the game, Wenger was asked if the brace by the 18-year-old has earned him a look in for the squad in Premier League games, the French coach mentioned Iwobi as one of the players he is up against for a spot ‎in the main team.
“Yes, but I have players who need competition as well. This team played in Belgrade in a very physical game and I think we were not completely sharp, as we have been last week. These players, like Iwobi, who can play in the same position, they need competition”, Wenger told Arsenal.com.
Iwobi already know the type of competition he has in Nketia.
Six months before Nketiah introduced himself to Arsenal fans and the rest of the world, Iwobi had listed lad as one of the top prospects in the Arsenal youth ranks.
The manner, which he scored the first goal has led to talks about his prolific nature in front of goal, but Iwobi has long known that special aspect of his game, and spoke about it in April.
While speaking on the top prospect to watch out for in the Arsenal youth ranks, Iwobi listed Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Ben Sheaf ‎as players who have impressed him the most.
On Nketiah, Iwobi said, “Eddie (Nketiah) just finds the goals. Some people have that instinct just to get the ball and put it in the net with just one chance. He’s somebody who’s able to find the goal, not just for Arsenal but for England as well. He’s definitely one for the future.”
