FMC doctors protest poor pay

Over 60 resident doctors of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State on Saturday passed a vote of no confidence in the management of the health institution led by Dr. Kingsley Achigbu.
The doctors, who spoke under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors, FMC Owerri chapter, expressed displeasure with the hospital management over the dismissal of resident doctors, non-payment of salaries and arrears and inability to obey the directives of the Federal Government.

The President of the Association, Dr. Ogoke Nwakamma, stated that the management had reneged on the previous agreements reached between the Federal Government and the National Association of Resident Doctors, as regards proper placement of resident doctors.

“The newly employed resident doctors are still wrongly placed despite the agreement between FG and NARD on proper placement of residents.”
Ogoke also said the sacking of some resident doctors was illegal and unacceptable.
